Description
Belt filter press dewatering systems are used to separate solid and liquid in sludge, commonly in industries such as pulp and paper mills, chemical plants, printing and dyeing mills, mining operations, and sewage treatment facilities. Originally developed in Europe for dewatering paper pulp, conventional belt filter presses have since been modified for use in wastewater treatment processes.
Working Principle
A Belt Filter Press dewatering machine is a solid-liquid separation device that applies mechanical pressure to a slurry, which is sandwiched between two tensioned belts. The slurry is chemically conditioned and passed through a serpentine of decreasing diameter rolls.
The machine is divided into three zones: the gravity zone, where free draining water is drained by gravity through a porous belt; the wedge zone, where the solids are prepared for pressure application; and the pressure zone, where medium, then high pressure is applied to the conditioned solids.
The Belt Filter Press typically receives a slurry ranging from 1-4% feed solids and produces a final product of 25% cake solids. The performance of the machine depends on the nature of the solids being processed.
